When it comes to future success, can the ex-Cub factor be used to determine the winner of this years Stanley Cup finals? Our Blackhawks are on the rise, and therefore as solid logic would dictate, the more ex-'Hawks a team has, the better chance they have of winning.
While Pittsburgh does have Crosby and Malkin, they do not have Detroit's Dan Cleary (Chicago 97 & 98), Aaron Downey (Chicago 00 & 01), Chris Chellios (Chicago 90-98), and Dominick Hasek ( Chicago 90 & 91) - all ex Blackhawk's.
The closet thing the Penguins have to a Chicago tie in, is their 6 point producer Adam Hall from Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Therefore, while it sounds nice to say Detroit will win the series in 4 straight games (i.e. 4 Red Wings who are ex-Hawks compared to the Pen's 0 ), I've got to believe talent still has something to do with it. Therefore, I will say with confidence that the Red Wings will win the series 4 games 2.
